Using natural diapers has always been important to our family.

The skin is the body's largest organ, and the thought of having our precious babies in toxic diapers for the first years of their lives is alarming. On average, babies spend 24 hours a day for two years wearing a diaper against their skin and reproductive organs. Using plastic and toxic chemicals in a diaper makes no sense, especially when plastics, bleaches, and other harsh chemicals can disrupt hormones, lead to skin conditions and respiratory issues, and can cause an array of other, long-term health issues. For us, natural diapers were always a no-brainer.

Throughout the years, we have used different brands of natural diapers. Some were better than others: some leaked; some did not hold up well while others held up but were not as soft or fitting as other diapers. Today, natural diapers can be just as comfortable and absorbent as commercial brands but without all the toxic materials. In our home, we avoid toxic cleaners, so why would we allow our baby to wear some of those very same chemicals we try our best to avoid.

In the past, we have written about and shared the importance of using natural diapers. However, the one aspect that has troubled us is the cost of natural diapers: natural diapers tend to be more expensive than commercial brands like Pamper or Huggies. For many families, the idea of spending more money on a disposable product like diapers does not fit their budget.

We had been selling another brand of natural diapers in the Motherhood Shop, but we knew that they were too expensive for the majority of our customers to purchase for everyday use. We thought about this problem, and we decided that we wanted the Motherhood Shop to be part of the solution. We had an idea: what if we could bypass the middleman, go straight to the factories, produce the best possible natural diaper that we could stand behind, and then offer that diaper to you at a price as close to the price you are likely already paying for a commercial diaper brand?

We spent months talking to dozens of factories until we found one that could make the exact diapers that we would use and love for our family. The problem was that, in order to make our own diapers, the factory needed us to purchase nearly a quarter million diapers for our first order. This is a huge risk because to date, we have only sold a small number of diapers. After taking time to think and pray, we decided to do it. We did everything we could to keep the price low and make these diapers as affordable as possible.

In most cases, the price of Baby Bear Bamboo Diapers will be similar to the price you are likely already paying. From Nancy and I and everyone at the Motherhood Shop, we hope you love these diapers. Please, help us spread the word and make these diapers a success.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Jonathan & Nancy Laudon
